The hunting zoetrope

Teaser for IFFR Short program
Title:
“The hunting Zoetrope”
Logline:
The eternal ride to the unknown
Concept:
IFFR is innovation, is forward-looking and every year it looks for novelty and boldness In the audiovisual field, especially what it comes to the short program. These characteristics are the ones that I wanted to explore and highlight in my teaser. Nevertheless I also wanted to point out that innovation and rule-breaking is not possible without tradition and history. That is why I have decided to pay tribute to the history of the moving image, by using a zoetrope as the protagonist of my teaser, within which the hunt for innovation could take place.
The story I want to tell with my zoetrope is a story as old as the world. It’s THE story, the one that makes the world move: the hunt. This need we all have to look for something our whole life, that need which drives us and makes us run to get what we want. But my teaser is not about the prize or the goal. It is about the ride. We’re always on the run for something, for the better, for the new. That is what IFFR does every and each year: it hunts for innovation. And that is whats the artists within the festival and all around the globe also keep doing with their art and different forms of expression.
The zoetrope is the festival itself, it runs in circles, and every turn, every year is different. The animals in my zoetrope represent the diversity of films and artists within the short program: they are all different and they all show different worlds, but they all belong to the same system, and answer to similar calls, the frenetic urge to create and express. The music, the rhythmic crescendo, illustrates the ride’s impetuousness and excitement. The end of the ride is not shown, as the hunt never actually ends.
